Public Speaking Course:
Attention Gaining Devices
Here is another great skill you will learn during your public speaking course.
We know that peoples attention spans tend to be on the short side. Here is
the 'Wake em Up' way to keep the audience alert and interested. After
you have created your talk, go through it and make sure that every
2-4 minutes you use some kind of attention gaining device.
Some attention gaining devices to use are increasing your
voice inflection, show a visual, hold up a prop, tell a story,
a flip chart, move around the room, throw out a one liner, or show a picture
of your kids if you want to. You are essentially limitless in ideas on
what to use to gain the attention of your audience. You will learn how
to use attention gaining devices effectively in your public speaking course.
Just make sure every few minutes that go by you incorporate some of these
attention gaining devices. When you utilize these skills effectively your
audience won't know you are using a technique on them, but at the end they
will say. Wow! That time sure went by fast!
